Samuel Way is the 2nd great-grandfather of Lewis Way (Samuel Way, Solomon Way, Edward Lewis Way, Hiram Lewis Way, Lewis Beathel Way).

Samuel J. Way was born on 16 September 1738 at Wallingford, Connecticut and died on 20 September 1806 at Waterbury, Connecticut, son of David Way and Esther Russell. He married on 1 September 1761 at Waterbury to Sarah Lewis, daughter of John Lewis and Mary Munn. She was born 9 April 1743. They had 13 children.

Samuel was an inhabitant of Waterbury in 1759 when he paid a tax of 45 pounds.

In 1800 he is listed in the Census of Plymouth, Litchfield County, Connecticut.
