Edward Lewis is the 3rd great-grandfather of Lewis Way (Edward Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Solomon Way, Edward Lewis Way, Hiram Lewis Way, Lewis Betheal Way).
Edward Lewis was born 6 Sep 1697 in Barnstable, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod, son of Deacon John Lewis and Elizabeth Huckins. He married Rebecca Lathrop, daughter of Hope Lathrop and Elizabeth Lathrop. She was born 25 Nov 1701 in Barnstable, Massachusetts. They had 9 children.
He moved to Guilford, Connecticut about 1725. He moved again, to Litchfield CT, around 1746. He sold his land in Guilford on Oct 9, 1746 and his youngest son, James, was born in Litchfield a month later. His wife, Rebecca Lathrop, died in Guilford.
Edward served in the French and Indian War (1755-1762) and was at Crown Point, New York, in Captain Bellows Company, from 25 Aug 1755 to 6 Dec 1755. He also served in the Colonel Eleazer Fitche Regiment as a Lieutenant for campaigns in 1757.
Edward was a member of the Church of Christ in Norfolk, Litchfield, Connecticut. He died and was buried there. He had three wives and lived 92 years.
