Edward Lewis Way is the grandfather of Lewis Way
(Edward Lewis Way, Hiram Lewis Way, Lewis Beathel Way).
Edward Way was born 19 May 1804 at Hillsdale, New York. He died 20 October 1854 at Pittsfield, Hillsdale County, Michigan, and is buried in Kane cemetery at Locust Corners. He married in December 1828 to Polly Sawtell. She was born 1 January 1806 to Edmund Sawtell and Hannah Gaines. She died 22 February 1839 in Pittsford, Hillsdale, Michigan. They had 4 children.
After Polly's passing, Edward married about 1840 in Pembroke, New York, to Polly Newton, daughter of John Newton and Anna Cole. She was born 6 November 1812 in New York and died 25 June 1872. They had 4 children also.

Edward L. Way as a young man migrated with his family to western New York. He married there to Polly Sattell, and they had 2 children there.

Edward L. Way settled in 1836 on the farm next west of the Robins place, and was from near Batavia, Genesee Co,. N. Y. His old home is at present owned by James White.

Edward purchased two land patents in Wheatland township, sealed 7 Nov 1837; one for 80 acres and the other for 160 acres.
Edward and Polly had 2 more children in Michigan, and then Polly died young.
Edward remarried to a different Polly and they had 4 children.
In 1840, Edward was at Wheatland in Hillsdale County.

At that time, he was a farmer and owned real estate worth $2000.
As the eldest son, Hiram Way probably received his father's farm.
