Polly Jenkins @ Chemung Canal

Finger Lakes

Chemung Canal

Polly Ann Jenkins is the grandmother of Lewis Way
(Polly Jenkins, Mariah Tripp, Lewis Way).

Polly Jenkins was born 1815 in New York. Both her parents were born in New York. She married Isaiah Tripp. In 1850 they resided in Dix, Chemung, New York. They migrated to Michigan. She died Mar 1879 of consumption in Jefferson, Hillsdale, Michigan. They had 4 children.

Polly and Isaiah Tripp lived near in Dix during construction of the Chemung Canal, which connected to Seneca Lake. Once the canal was completed in 1850, they likely traveled to the north end of Seneca on a lake barge and on to the Erie Canal making their way to the Old Northwest.
