John Tilley @ Plymouth




Cole's Hill is the burial place of the Pilgrims who died in the first winter (1620-21). It rises above Plymouth Bay, on Carver St. in Plymouth, MA near the foot of Leyden St., the first street laid out in the original settlement.




John Tilley is the 8th great-grandfather of Lewis Way
(John Tilley, Elizabeth Tilley,Hope Howland, Hope Chipman,
Elizabeth Huckins, Edward Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Soloman Way,
Edward Lewis Way, Hiram Lewis Way, Lewis Way).

John Tilley was baptized 19 Dec 1571 in Henlow,
Bedfordshire, England, son of Robert Tilley and Elizabeth. He married Joan Hurst on
20 Sep 1596 in Henlow, Bedfordshire, England.
They both arrived on The Mayflower in 1620. They had 5
children, only Elizabeth is known to have descendants.

Of 102 passengers aboard the Mayflower, just 53 lived
through the first winter. John Tilley and Joan Hurst were
among those who perished, orphaning Elizabeth, ae 13.
